The name “M’Atematics” combines two words: “Atem” (“breath” in German) and “matics” (“mathematics” or “mechanics”). The work’s main idea is that breathing is not only a physiological process, but also something that can be studied and analyzed artistically. After all, in the abstract world of sounds, each breath sign continues the infinite formula of being, the mathematics of the universe.

Meanwhile, to the newly created music for harpsichord and strings, a young artist from Dnipro, the winner of the Second All-Ukrainian Composer Competition named after Myroslav Skoryk, Yurii Pikush tried to find thin threads of interaction between the timbres of the instruments, which are whimsically intertwined, wandering the imaginary planet Terra Cla (harpsichord) Stri (ngs). The form of this work consists of several contrasting episodes that alternate, but each time appear in an updated form. At a certain moment, the strings and harpsichord reach the highest possible register, as if trying to escape beyond the limits of their terra… However, whether they will be able to overcome the limit of their capabilities, or under the force of irresistible gravity, the listener will be able to understand only at the very end.

On 8, 10 and 13 September 2024, the 10th UKRAINE MUSIC DAYS will be held in WARSAW. This is a double anniversary – the 10th Festival and its 25th anniversary. The first Festival took place in 1999. Subsequent ones were held in 2001, 2004, 2012, 2019 and since 2020. The Festival is held annually with the aim of promoting Ukrainian music in our deep conviction of the importance of presenting Ukrainian high culture to a Polish audience. What is happening in Ukraine today – no need to be reminded. The Ukrainians are defending their own independence, but also us against the savage aggression of the barbarians of today. We invite you to visit our concerts and convince yourself of the greatness of Ukrainian musical culture.

This year, we received a three-year grant from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage in cooperation with the National Institute of Music and Dance, and we are also implementing a second three-year grant from the City of Warsaw – so the perspective of our plans extends to 2026. As in previous years, we are also supported by the ZAiKS Authors’ Association, the MAGOVOX Foundation and the Union of Performing Artists STOART.
